EAST MELBOURNE HARRIERS. - About 40
runners representing the East Melbourne Harriers
and a number of C.Y.M.S runners met at Ivanhoe
and ran over a six mile course selected by the hares
      (E. H. Jabara and H. W. McSweeney). O. C.
Anderton formerly the club's 10-miles champion,
paced the fast pack and C. V. Scott whipped In.
The slow pack was controlled by the captain and
      vice-captain (J. M. Gaughwin and S. M. Newman).

The fasts joined with the slows about a mile from
home, and both combined for a 660 yards handicap
      run-in. A. J. Prichard (60 yds) showed a fine
turn of speed, and caught E. H. Jabara (95 yds) 35
yards from the line. McKissock (60 yds) ran into
third place, with D. Bell (70 yds), W. G. Newman
(96 yds), and T. Saunders (45 yds) following in that
order. Joining the Coburg Harriers on Saturday,
East Melbourne Harriers will compete at Coburg. A
Club dlance will be held at the Maison de Luxe on
      Wednesday, May 21

JABARA-NELSON. - A very novel marriage ceremony took place on Wednesday, August 12, at the residence of Mrs. Nelson, Napier-street, South Melbourne, when Miss Annie Nelson was married to Mr. Michael Jabara (a Syrian). The hall and rooms were prettily decorated with flowers, art drapery and mottoes. The clergyman was the Reverend Mr. Taylor, of the Presbyterian Church. The bride wore a white silk dress trimmed with pearls and orange blossom, with a veil to correspond. The nieces of the bride, who were the bridesmaids, wore white frocks with floral trimmings, and bore bouquets. Mrs. Nelson (mother of the bride), wore black silk with bugle trimmings. After the ceremony, the guests adjourned to breakfast, during which the usual toasts were proposed and responded to. There was a large number of Syrians present. The Chancellor of the Consul for Turkey-Mr. W. Abourizk - expressed his gratitude to the hostess for the kind manner in which she entertained his fellow countryman, mentioning that most of the guests present thoroughly understood the ceremony and appreciated it. Mr. Abourizk then quoted a few poems in compliment to the newly married couple, in the Arabic language. Immediately after the breakfast, the bride and bridegroom were escorted by the guests to the Melbourne station, and left for Ballarat.
