LES JABARA, the popular Wonthaggi sportsman, is full of optimism regarding the Victorian Junior road championship (under 16 years). He is pinning his faith to Tom Fitzgerald, the Wonthaggi lad, who won the "town" test and who has qualified for the semi-final.
Les is positive that Tom will win his way into the grand final and wrest the title from Tommy Hughes, the Bendigonian.

      £346 PER FOOT PAID FOR
      DEAN ST. PROPERTY
      New Record For Albury
      Mr. L. C. Jabara's £9500
      Purchase
The highest price per foot for land ever sold In Albury has been paid for land and premises known as, Blake's Busy Book Bazaar in Dean street, owned by Mr. Arthur Hewish. The purchaser was Mr. L C. Jabara, and the figure, £9500, represents £346 a foot for the frontage of slightly more than 2711. L.J. Colquhoun and Co. were the agents.
Negotiations which have been in progress for several days, were brought to a head yesterday. The sale does not include the business, which Mr. Hewish intends to continue as usual. There is probably no better site for a retail enterprise in the town, as it is right in the heart of the shopping area.
Other sales in the same locality indicate the value placed on property in the centre of the town. Some years ago the late J. F. Maloney sold his property adjoining Blake's at a figure which represented approximately £330 a foot. In more recent years the Hume Weir cafe changed hands at £333 a foot
Mr. Jabara is a comparative newcomer to the town. About 11 years ago he set up on his own account acquiring a jewellery and watch repairing business, which had encountered financial difficulties, in Swanston st. Melbourne, the prlce of which was £1150. At the time he had only £18. He gave bills for the purchase, and in 12 months was free of debt.
Within I8 months, however, the owners demolished the building, and
Mr. Jabara moved to Wonthaggi where he remained for several years, until three consecutive strikes at the State coal mine made business unprofitable. Three years ago he came to Albury. taking a lease of his present shop until 1940.
When eventually he takes possession of his purchase, he proposes to make it one of the finest jewellery establishments outside the cities. He has obtained many Ideas of the latest trend in fitting out jewellery shops from the capital cities and from New York which he proposes to use here.

      Albury Plunge Misses
THE well-known Albury sportsman, Les Jabara, owner of Kreuger Toes, went for a big plunge on the dog at Maribyrnong on Saturday night. Backed from 4 to 1 to odds-on. Kreuger Toes spoiled his chances by beginning tardily, and although he made up much leeway, the earlier effort took its toll, and the Kreuger dog just failed to reach Anywhere who led all the way. The Albury owner declares that his experience will not prevent him from having another tilt at Maribynong. He recently purchased the litter brothers, Kreuger Toes, Tiny Toes, Velvetred and Rapido from the breeder. Mrs E. E. Hunter, of Albury. Before racining dogs. Les was well known in the cycling world, he having under his care R. W. Lamb, the late Wal Stuart, and Dick Collins, among others.

JABARA-NELSON. - A very novel marriage ceremony took place on Wednesday, August 12, at the residence of Mrs. Nelson, Napier-street, South Melbourne, when Miss Annie Nelson was married to Mr. Michael Jabara (a Syrian). The hall and rooms were prettily decorated with flowers, art drapery and mottoes. The clergyman was the Reverend Mr. Taylor, of the Presbyterian Church. The bride wore a white silk dress trimmed with pearls and orange blossom, with a veil to correspond. The nieces of the bride, who were the bridesmaids, wore white frocks with floral trimmings, and bore bouquets. Mrs. Nelson (mother of the bride), wore black silk with bugle trimmings. After the ceremony, the guests adjourned to breakfast, during which the usual toasts were proposed and responded to. There was a large number of Syrians present. The Chancellor of the Consul for Turkey-Mr. W. Abourizk - expressed his gratitude to the hostess for the kind manner in which she entertained his fellow countryman, mentioning that most of the guests present thoroughly understood the ceremony and appreciated it. Mr. Abourizk then quoted a few poems in compliment to the newly married couple, in the Arabic language. Immediately after the breakfast, the bride and bridegroom were escorted by the guests to the Melbourne station, and left for Ballarat.
