    2. [S45] Private e-mail, Liz Haydon.
Hello Garry (sorry I called you Ivan)

George Warne B. 1806 was my great great great grandfather.

George Warne's daughter Emma Warne married John Embly Wilson in the Victorian goldfields around the Clunes, Bendigo and it was one of their many children, Laura Lavinia Wilson who married my grandfather's father - Walter Edward Haydon who was born in Enfield, Middlesex, England c. 1869 - died in Camberwell in 1950.

George Warne must have been a very clever hard-working fellow with a brain for business. He was a hat-maker in Greenwich, England before coming to Aust and when Emma Warne's mother died in England George Warne married the family's young servant girl, Harriet Pheasant Smith who was several years younger then he.

George and Harriet's children as well as Emma all immigrated to Victoria in 1859.

George then set about establishing a successful drapery store in Sandhurst/Bendigo. As you know George Warne died in Bendigo in 1888 at the age of 82.

You've done well. It was good to see George Warne's name and the result of all your research.

      Regards
      Elizabeth Haydon
