      Martha McWilliam was the daughter from the second marriage of Martha Saunders, born Martha Pulsford (c.1799-1851) of Tiverton, Devonshire whose first husband was William Saunders (c1795-1835), a blacksmith and wheelwright also from Tiverton. He was recruited in England in 1832 by the Van Diemen's Land Company and migrated to Van Diemen's Land on the ship "Sir Thomas Munro" with his wife Martha (nee Pulsford) and their sons William (jnr.) and James. A daughter, Emily, was born on board shortly after the ship left the English Downs on 18 September 1832. They disembarked at Circular Head, V.D.L. on 22 January 1833.
